Mayra and Adrian’s wedding was inspired by one of the bride’s favorite childhood stories, “The Secret Garden.” They created a mix between rustic charm and a sweet garden with a lovely color palette of lavender, dusty rose and gold accented by lots of greenery. A Secret Garden inspired wedding in Camarillo, CA
The Proposal
“For Valentine’s Day, it’s a tradition for my husband and I to alternate planning a little getaway. The year we got engaged (February 2016), it was my turn to plan our trip, and I chose Monterey, CA. We had a beautiful weekend filled with great food and tasty wine! I couldn’t help but notice that my then boyfriend was nervous and seemed very on edge on our trip. It wasn’t until he proposed in the intimacy of our hotel room that it all made sense to me!”
About the Wedding
“We always knew we wanted to be married outdoors, and we wanted our venue to host both the ceremony and the reception, a one-stop shop. After deciding on the Camarillo Ranch House, everything else was coordinated to complement the historic venue. We chose to have a secret garden themed wedding with taupe, dusty rose, lavender, and ivory as our colors and some gold for a pop of color. We wanted the style of our wedding to be casual where guests felt comfortable enough to let loose but romantic at the same time.”
Favorite Moments
“My favorite part of the day as the bride was the first look. A moment of calm with my future husband after so much planning frenzy. My husband forgot some lines during our ceremony and laughing about it definitely made me loosen up my nerves during the ceremony, which I thank him for! The dancing for both of us was one of our best memories. The dance floor was outdoors so space was not an obstacle and all of our friends and family seemed so happy to be with us. Funny drunk speeches my extended family members that were not on the timeline were definitely a good memory as well for both my husband and I!”
The Flowers, Favors & Cake
“We were inspired by the colors of the gardens from our venue. Hydrangeas, succulents, roses and a lot of greenery made up most of our arrangements. We wanted the flowers to feel soft and flow with the venue organically as opposed to overpowering.
“We wanted a simple cake that was both rustic and elegant. We were in love with the soft waves details, and we decided to sit it on top of a wood slab to add a rustic touch.
“For favors, we chose tiny succulent plants with a personalized sticker that read “let love grow.” We felt that they were different and a good choice for our garden-themed wedding. Our venue had a variety of succulent gardens that added to our inspiration, as well.”
Special Traditions
“We incorporated Catholic traditions in our ceremony such as the uniting “Lazo.” We knew that would make our parents happy, and we also had scriptures read from the Bible to give our ceremony more of a religious touch.”
The Attire
“My husband went with a classic black tux. After trying on several he felt that he could not go wrong with classic and I completely agreed. My dress was an off-white lace gown that I customized by adding straps and lowering the back. I wanted lace because it gives off an old-fashioned vibe that worked well with our venue.”
