After considering countless New York City rooftops for their summer wedding, Aneya and David fell in love with the Midtown Loft & Terrace and its stunning views of the Empire State Building! They wanted a sophisticated, intimate affair with pops of purple, silver and white, and their paper goods featured the NYC skyline. The couple each chose five cities that were important to them, and each table had a corresponding postcard. To honor the bride’s Sri Lankan heritage, the wedding was catered by their favorite Sri Lankan restaurant in the city, and the centerpieces were flowers in elephant teapots on top of banana leaves. Other personalized touches included their customized cake topper, a world map seating chart, cake pops for each guest, and custom menu cards so guests could easily identify the Sri Lankan dishes. An urban summer NYC rooftop wedding
I met my husband David three years ago in Las Vegas, where I was living at the time. My older brother, who lives in London, decided to have a boy’s trip to Sin City and brought his two best mates, one of whom happened to be David. There was an immediate spark between us, but my brother had warned his friends that I was off limits, so we spent the week talking and stealing meaningful glances. On the last night of the trip, David finally kissed me and our romance began. After two months of Skyping, we met up in New York City, a sort-of halfway point between Las Vegas and London. It was the best weekend of my life, because that’s when our relationship truly began. Two months after that, I moved to London. In January 2013 we returned to the city where we fell in love and we’ve been here in New York ever since. David proposed on Thursday, November 28th, 2013. It was Thanksgiving Day, and he suggested we take a walk to Central Park. When we arrived, he steered me towards the reservoir. The reservoir is a special place for us, since it’s where I took David on our first weekend together. We’ve been coming back ever since. After strolling along the water for a few minutes, David suddenly stopped walking. I was annoyed and cold and didn’t know why he was being so slow. When I turned around, he was down on one knee and asking me to marry him. With tears streaming down my face, I said yes and we kissed, joggers cheering and clapping for us as they ran past. – Aneya
