An elegant and classic gold wedding in Charleston, SC
Grace and Johnathan not only fell in love with each other; they fell in love with Charleston. When we started our planning process, they lived in Virginia. Ten months later, they were moving to Charleston! They are one of those special couples who become lifelong friends, so I was beyond thrilled to welcome them to this beautiful city I call home. When Grace told me her family was from Ireland, I knew Hibernian Hall was going to be the place for them. Not only does it pay homage to her heritage, but the timeless elegance that the Hall offers with its grand white columns, stunning white and black marble entrance, and ballroom featuring ornate gold chandeliers, lends itself to the exquisite look we desired for them. Grace and Johnathan married in St. Luke’s Chapel. Her father, a true Irishman, made the ceremony so special when we sung a sweet tune to the couple and strummed along on his guitar as the ceremony guests received communion. The couple selected the perfect tune of “Mrs. Robinson” for the violinist to play as the couple exited.
The couple wanted to savor every minute of their wedding reception so they chose to have a 2 and half hour period to take pictures before their wedding reception began. With a majority of guests traveling from afar to enjoy their first trip to Charleston, we seized the opportunity to show them what made Grace and Johnathan fall in love with the city. Guests were given an illustrated map marked with all of the couple’s favorite spots along the way from St. Luke’s to Hibernian. When guests arrived to the reception early that evening, they were greeted by the ceremony violinist playing on the steps as they entered the hall. When they reached the top of the split grand staircase, breezy white draping wrapped in local eucalyptus and white roses framed the ballroom as they walked in. The room was adorned with golden fruits (including a pineapple, of course), greenery-wrapped gold candelabras, lots of white candles, and soft amber lighting. Guests enjoyed Charleston’s own pimento cheese with breadsticks and olives at every table, and passed hors d’oeuvres such as Buttermilk Fried Quail Breast with a Blackberry Reduction. True to Irish tradition, whiskey and beer flowed, along with many bottles of champagne. The couple’s loved ones sang sweet praises of them during the toasts, and Grace’s parents even recovered a long lost favorite plush toy of Grace’s that made the move to Ireland and back with her long ago.
Following a lot of laughter and tears, came a whole lot of dancing. The friends and family in attendance were there to dance, and the band knew exactly what to play them. – Elevents & Co.
