Alexa and Heath’s summer wedding in Massachusetts was a sweetly rustic DIY celebration. The bride’s father was instrumental in making their wedding day special: he made the decorated doors framing the ceremony space and serving as the photo booth backdrop, as well as the Adirondack tables (he made them from branches and wood slabs)! Cassi Claire Photography captured their day.
A DIY rustic mountain wedding in Monterey, MA
Heath and I got engaged in April 2013 and enjoyed a beautiful, mostly DIY, ceremony on July 20, 2013. We highly recommend short engagements! The wedding was planned mostly over emails and phone calls, since we live in Virginia and got married in Massachusetts (my home). As the wedding day approached, so many hands were offering to help make the day JUST like I had planned. My theme was rustic, chic, and fairly casual, and my goal was to create an environment that was relaxed, yet tasteful. That is why I chose to find dresses from TJ Maxx so my girls could wear them again and why I got my centerpieces from the dollar store and the woods! I also had the opportunity to make my own flowers and bouquets for the wedding. We found a florist in the area that allowed my mom and I to come pick out the flowers we liked, he went to Boston to pick them up, and we got to design the arrangement from start to finish. This was a highlight of the week before the wedding, a special time for my mom and I to spend together around an activity we both enjoy. Heath and I are both so thankful that the rain held off (as it was supposed to storm all day), that our friends were so willing to help anyway they could, and at the end of the day our ceremony was honoring to the Lord. The wedding was super simple to pull off in 3-1/2 months and everything was completely perfect, there wasn’t one thing we would have changed. -Alexa
