We just wrapped up bridal market, and woofta, what a cacophony of pretty dresses to lust after. The usual suspects like Vera Wang, Berta and Galia Lahav were serving up another season of major gowns and there were a number of designers you may not be as familiar with that really caught our fancy, Laure de Sagazan and Lee Grebenau, to name a few. As I was sitting down to write up my trend report and favorite dresses though, I started to muse about what really makes for a beautiful bridal look; for a happy, joyful, radiating couple on their wedding day, and it made me remember. It’s not about the dress.
I mean, ok, it is sort of about the dress. I sell dresses, after all, and am six years into building a business that is focused on making quality, unique and dreamy dresses available to every woman, new or nearly-new. That said, like all pretty things, it is just an adornment to highlight the beauty and individuality of the wearer. And for the my fellow fashion-following femmes, if the red carpet, celebrity stylists and I mean, Alessandro Michele at Gucci have taught us anything, it is that style is least of all about the actual, physical garments and pieces that adorn someone, and much more about how they are put together, how they are worn, accessorized, and enjoyed.
So, there are still a slew of runway and presentation images coming your way, and I love nothing more than to edit and distill me some fashion, but before I do that, and since our blog and me blogging is a new-ish expansion for Nearly Newlywed, I wanted to make sure I said, unequivocally, that the most fashionable bride is one that feels awesome and loves who she is marrying. Comfort in yourself, which includes your garments and accessories, is key, and honestly, if that is jeans and tshirt, a ballgown with a 100 foot train or a cheeky little tuxedo suit, you will look great if you look and feel like you.
There are no rules, in weddings and in style. And what you take into your wedding, you partner, your friends, your families, will be what you take out of it along with the memories and photos of the day. So make it your own. By all means, wear a fab dress (or 3! Or 5!). Or don’t. Follow your you-ness and personal style, and let us know if we can help along the way.
