We’ve featured some other amazing cake inspiration in the past, including glorious all-white cakes and crazy creative cakes, but today is all about color. Bright pops of color are made for wedding cakes, we think, so here are some beautiful photos of some of the hottest trends in colored wedding cakes.
1. Ikat textiles
Ikat is a style of Indonesian textile, one that looks stunning when done with bright colors on cakes, it turns out. Cake: Sweet and Saucy
2. Marbled cakes
Swirls of complementary colors in fondant create an extraordinary cake. These two examples from The Whole Cake take marbled cakes to the next level with their polish, feminine palette and the addition of the ever popular frills. Photo on left: Lisa Lefkowitz
3. Modern geometric design
Splashes of citrus shades on this tiered wedding cake look beautiful when paired with hexagonal geometric shapes. Cake: Whipped Bakeshop
4. Hand-drawn scenes inspired by art
Look no further than your favorite artist or piece of artwork to recreate on a wedding cake, like Monet’s Water Lilies. Cake: Michelle’s Patisserie, Photo: Mint Photography
5. Handpainted watercolors
Handpainting remains popular for wedding cakes in 2015. One of our favorite looks is a light watercolor-style wash in rainbow tie-dye style colors and or subtle shades of green. Left: For Goodness Cake, Photo: Angela Murray Morris Photography, Right: Whisk Bakery
6. Bold baroque
Perhaps best suited for dramatic winter weddings, these two cakes demonstrate how well deep shades of crimson and burgundy can work as wedding cakes. Combine with texture and you’ve got a show stopping wedding confection. Left: Artisan Cake Company. Right: Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium, Photo: Kate Nielen
7. Minimal pops
Sometimes all you need is a blank white canvas to showcase a few pops of color, be it a bunch of edible ranunculus and poppies (in this instance to replicate the bride’s bouquet) or minimalist modern ribbons. Left: Crummb Bakery, Right: Coco Paloma Desserts,
8. Color-blocking
Color-blocked cakes are only for the boldest of couples. This simple combination of colors is brought together with a few lines of black. Reminds us of pop art! Cake: The Caketress
9. Gilded
Some colors just go better with gold. (Well, okay, lots of things do. Jewelry, for instance…) The deep teal color is a perfect background for the luxury touches of gold. So eye-catching! Photo: Hey There Cupcake
10. Tiled
A tiled cake is modern and unexpected. This architectural wedding cake with clean lines and light lemon shades create a fresh and light design.. Cake: AK Cake Design
