Kim + Michiel |  March 20-21, 2010 | Boracay Island, Philippines

The wedding
The wedding celebrations took place over two days as we wanted to make the most out of our guests’ trip all the way to Boracay.

Upon Arrival – A welcome basket was waiting in each guests’ room filled with Philippine goods, a map of the island and a letter welcoming them to the magical island and informing them of meeting points for the next two days’ events. It was pure paradise, no one wanted to leave and go back to reality.

Day One – Guests boarded the Tamarind Yacht for a sunset cruise.  While sailing they devoured fresh fruits, cocktail drinks, chips and other light snacks while watching the beautiful sunset, cruising on the calm waters of Boracay.

As we approached The Cove for our nights’ festivities, sounds of drums rolling could be heard from a distance. Ethnic drummers set the mood and a candle-lit pathway led the way to the ethnic themed dinner area. Welcome drinks were set for guests to enjoy – Pina Colada in Coconuts, Margarita in Mason Jars and Mojitos. It was an amazing night.

Day Two – This time, guests dressed in white gathered in the Resorts’ main lobby where they took in the breathtaking view of the resort and the beach. A long stretch of steps down revealed the ceremony area that was right on the beach. Monochromatic shades of pink to white flowers beautified the arbor and aisle.

The guests gathered and conch shell was hooted to announce the bride’s arrival. From a distance, the bride can be seen approaching, gliding on a sail boat. The music was upped one notch, the guests started tearing up. The ceremony was perfect.

Guests proceeded to the cocktail area while the bride and groom changed into their reception clothes. This time, they took on a chic 1920s look. The food was amazing, everyone had a great time.. They were shuttled back in golf carts while we retreated to our Presidential Suite – the moment we looked forward to the most – enjoying the rest of our lives together.

What made Kim’s wedding dress”The One”
I did my research, I knew my body, I  knew the “look” I wanted for wedding day. I tried asking couturiers if they can re-create a gown I saw in a magazine but they were hesitant as it was quite complicated. I opted to finding one online. As soon as I saw Melissa Sweet’s Anais, I knew it was perfect – classy, and somehow it just fell right into a beach wedding.

Her advice for other brides
Planning your own wedding can get very stressful especially when things don’t go as was planned. Being a bridezilla won’t get you anywhere, except that you’ll make more enemies. I refrained from letting those minor details get to me and just enjoyed what the celebration was really about. Take it in stride and just laugh out the small things that aren’t perfect. Nobody will notice, they’ll only remember how splendid the over-all experience was.
