What trends are you seeing for 2014?
We look for our inspiration everywhere – and especially outside of bridal.  We look at fashion, product design, textiles, and interiors to see what’s trending there. We find that trends really run the gamut, but two things we consistently see, and are bringing into our work for this year are:

Neutrals
We’ll pull out neutral tones and pair them with subtle hints of color.  We recently did this gorgeous invitation that was black, white and gold and the envelope lining was a bright pop of fuchsia.

Leather
Leather is prominent in fashion right now.  You’ll see leather in sweatshirts or paneling in pants.  Bliss & Bone is known for our work with leather, and it’s something that we’re continuing focus on this year.

If you could pick an invitation that’s your personal favorite, which would you pick and why?
I get asked that question all the time and usually it’s the most recent invitation I’ve worked on, because it’s the most fresh and exciting in my mind!

I recently worked with a dream client who wanted her wedding stationary to be definitely more edging and out of the box than normal bridal. Her invites were concrete, metal and splatter and totally amazing.

We did this invite for a bride with a very unique style.  Her invites were a bit Christian Lacroix meets Jewish mysticism.

A third invitation that sticks out for me was one that was all white and cream and very textural.

Bliss & Bone really caters to the bride who wants beauty and classic style without the fluff of bridal.  These three invitations really exemplify that to me and is what we really love doing.

What’s an example of a “Splurge” and a “Save” invitation from Bliss & Bone.
We’re all splurge at the moment!  We love collaborating with brides to create different, one of-a-kind pieces to for their weddings.  It’s definitely a luxurious wedding spend.

That being said, we do custom work at variety of budget levels and are currently developing some more accessibly priced pieces which will be available in June.

What advice do you have for a bride starting her invitation search?
No matter where she is in the design process, if she needs save the dates, invitations or day of paper – focus on the basics.

Educate yourself
Spend time learning about the differences between letterpress, foil or flat printing.  Learn about the process and the feel of different textures to see what appeals to you.

Find Inspiration in the little bits
Your wedding and invitations are a reflection of who you are as a couple.  You can pull design inspiration from the colors and textures of the wedding, the brides dress, even the groom’s shoes.  Each of the bits works to tell a part of the couple’s story, which can be translated into the wedding paper.

Uncover the personal aspects
Look at your life and your life as a couple’s to see what is meaningful and personal to you. We recently designed for a bride in Texas who loves romance novels, quilting, and beautiful fabrics.  We created a romantic invitation with a pocket in it, which was perfectly matched to her personal style and interests and a great reflection of her.
