Kelly + Alex | Claire Pettibone Wedding from Neil Slattery Photography

Linen, lace and vintage whimsy…Kelly + Alex’s wedding overlooking the Okanagan Valley channeled the romance of a Jane Austen garden party and the sass and decadence of the Great Gatsby.  I love Kelly’s Claire Pettibone gown called Cloisonne; so feminine and delivers that special quality Kelly describes as something she had not seen on ‘Say Yes to the Dress’.  Don’t miss the rich array of  lush floral and vintage decor throughout the ceremony and reception or the cake made by the bride and her mom – a replica from the BBC motion picture ‘Emma’. Enjoy!

Kelly + Alex | June 29th 2012 | Summerhill Winery, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia

The Ceremony
The ceremony was outdoors, overlooking the Okanagan and a vineyard. Mason jars with a single hydrangea adorned the end of each aisle. On both sides of the arch, there were wine barrels filled with beautiful floral arrangements, which the venue provided. The signing table and the program chest were both vintage pieces decorated with floral arrangements in milk glass, thanks to the amazingly talented owner of Vintage Origami. The bouquets were simple and elegant, made up of pink peonies. The men wore light linen pants with a white shirt, and the girls wore an assortment of different dresses. One even sewn by my lovely mother!

The Reception
The reception was even more beautiful, also decorated by Vintage Origami and a few little snippets from me here and there. When you walked in, there were vintage mirrors that displayed the table settings. To the left of that was a vintage vanity where we posted pictures of us growing up, as well as all of the happily married couples in our family and from our ancestry. There was a seating area to the left, where we had little tags used as our guest book. The tables each had a unique floral arrangement in different pieces of milk glass. No one table was the same. Each table also had doilies, hand sewn linen napkins (that my mother once again toiled over) in a pale pink and pale greyish blue. The napkins were then wrapped with a vintage style key and a nametag, handwritten with ink and dip pen. The tea candles were wrapped in lace, and the whole venue gave a Jane Austen/Great Gatsby feminine romantic garden party vibe. The cake was actually a replica my mother and I made from the BBC motion picture Emma. While we were off taking pictures, we provided a wine tour, and a wine tasting for the guests with some delicious hors d’oeuvres. When we came back we did a saboring (opened a few bottles of champagne with a sword), yes totally cool! The dad’s loved it.

Kelly’s Dress Search
My dress search was long and tedious, because Edmonton definitely did not have the dress I had in mind. I wanted something different and unique…something I had never seen on “Say Yes to The Dress”. So my mother and I drove off to Calgary, where I knew they carried Claire Pettibone dresses. I knew I wanted a dress from her because they gave off such a romantic vibe with so much detail and handwork done in the dress. Without really having a particular style in mind, I ended up getting exactly what I wanted.

Why Kelly Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
I decided to sell my wedding dress, quite frankly because I won’t be able to wear it again. I had also looked at this website, in my desperate times to find a dress that I liked within a reasonable budget. My dress was certainly not inexpensive, and I would like another person to get the chance to wear it for less!
