Amy + Jason | A Vera Wang Wedding from John + Joseph Photography

Sweet and simple…Simply elegant that is! The taupe and pink color scheme was so romantic, the Kate Spade-inspired cake was pure perfection, and the charming candy bar added a whimsical element.  But the real highlight of this celebration was the bride in her amazing Vera Wang gown. I love it when Amy says she felt like “her most beautiful self” in this sophisticated and elegant gown. Beautiful indeed…enjoy!

The ceremony

The ceremony was held under a tent adjacent to the hotel and facing the waterfront. Beautiful floral arrangements lined the aisles as well as the altar, with white chiavari chairs to complement. The overall look and feel of the ceremony could be described as romantic elegance. Our officiant was also our college friend, which added a very personal touch as he has seen us blossom from the start of our relationship.

The reception

From the beautiful metallic taupe table linens, to the romantic palette of our centerpieces, the decor was what I had envisioned from the very start. We added our own personal touch with much involvement in the creation of the menus, the Bride & Groom chair signs, as well as the table numbers and escort cards (which I embellished with colored pearls to signify each guests’ entree of choice). Our wedding cake design was inspired by a “Kate Spade” aesthetic, and designed by one of the winners of the show Food Network Challenge. We also had a candy bar that reflected the wedding colors and our favorite sweet treats (pink grapefruit gummies, yogurt-covered pretzels, even adorable Bride & Groom cake pops handmade by one of my bridesmaids–those were the biggest hit of the night!). Our first dance was to Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up,” words I had engraved in Jason’s wedding band as a true symbol of my unconditional love and commitment.

Amy’s dress search

I started my dress search open-minded, but quite sure I would lean toward an A-line style dress. For the sake of covering all my bases, I tried on dresses of all types and all materials and visited numerous boutiques. From mermaid to ball gown, and from satin to lace, I began feeling discouraged that I was not going to find “the one” that so many experience first-hand. I finally had an appointment to the boutique where I purchased my dress. The first couple I tried on (all Vera Wang) were miles better than any others I had previously tried. When I stepped out in my third, the Diedre dress, and looked in the mirror, tears started welling up in my eyes immediately and I truly had that moment where I knew this was the one. It was ornate, yet understated. Interesting with the layers of ribbon on the skirt, yet light as a feather and incredible to move in. I felt like my most beautiful self in this dress and knew with certainty this would be the dress I would wear down the aisle.

Why Amy decided to sell her wedding dress

As much as I love this dress, I want someone else to be able to experience how amazing it feels to wear this dress and feel your most beautiful on the biggest and most monumental day of your life. It was quite an investment for me but one that was well worth it and one which I have no regrets.
